About Clearville Solar

We don’t just install solar – we live it every day

Our Approach: Honest Solar for Bedford County

Clearville Solar was born from frustration with the solar industry’s typical approach: high-pressure sales, inflated pricing, and cookie-cutter systems that don’t match actual needs.

After watching electricity rates in Bedford County skyrocket 115% since 2020, we decided to do something about it. Not with another typical solar company, but with a straightforward approach focused on what actually matters:

Transparent Pricing

No games, no “limited time offers.” We show you exactly what a quality solar installation costs in Bedford County: $1.75/watt – $2.50/watt. Not the $2.75/watt – $3.5/watt that big installers charge.

Right-Sized Systems

We size systems to match your actual annual consumption, not to maximize our profit. The goal is to zero out your electric bill, not overproduce and waste money.

Local Knowledge

We understand West Penn Power’s net metering, Bedford County’s permit process, and PA’s SREC program. We know what works here because we’re here.

No Pressure Sales

If solar doesn’t make financial sense for your situation, we’ll tell you. We’d rather make a friend than make a questionable sale.

Why Trust Us?

Simple: We installed solar on our own property before asking anyone else to buy it. We’re not selling something we haven’t proven ourselves. We live with the same West Penn Power net metering, the same Bedford County weather, the same system performance variables that you’ll experience.

Our Installation: Real Performance, Real Savings

Before we started Clearville Solar, we put our money where our mouth is with a 21.8 kW ground-mount system.

Why We Chose This System

  • Ground mount: Demonstrates this option for properties with available land. Often more cost-effective than roof installations.
  • Sized to usage: Designed to produce approximately our annual consumption, maximizing net metering benefits.
  • Quality components: 560W high-efficiency panels and reliable Goodwe inverter – the same equipment we recommend to customers.
  • Full monitoring: Integrated with Home Assistant and Grafana for real-time performance tracking. We can show you exactly what your system will produce.

Live Performance Data

This isn’t marketing hype – it’s real data from our real system, updated in real-time.

Why We Share This

Most solar companies show you projections and promises. We show you actual performance. This is what solar looks like day-to-day in Bedford County:

  • How production varies with weather and seasons
  • Real electricity cost savings vs. West Penn Power rates
  • System reliability and uptime
  • Actual vs. projected performance

The story: Even with solar + 31kWh batteries for 2 years, we still paid $500+/month on average because excess solar went to waste (red) without net metering. Once net metering was activated (Feb 2026), our bill dropped to $172 – and that green bar now includes both self-consumed AND grid-credited solar!

About Our Monitoring Setup

Our system uses Home Assistant for data collection and Grafana for visualization. This gives us:

  • Real-time production data: See generation every second
  • Historical analysis: Compare performance over days, months, and years
  • Cost calculations: Automatic savings tracking based on current utility rates
  • System health monitoring: Alerts if production drops unexpectedly
  • Weather correlation: Understand how clouds, seasons affect output

Note: This advanced monitoring setup is custom to our system and is not typically what most customers have. It’s also not included in automated quotes. Most solar systems come with standard inverter monitoring that shows production and basic statistics. However, if you’re interested in this level of detailed monitoring, we can discuss options to set it up for your system.

What We’ve Learned

A year+ of living with solar in Bedford County has taught us valuable lessons we share with every customer.

Seasonal Variation is Real

June produces 2-3x more than December. That’s why we size systems to annual consumption, not monthly averages. West Penn Power’s kWh banking makes this work perfectly.

Snow Clears Itself

We worried about snow accumulation, but panels self-clear within days. The dark surface absorbs sun and melts snow faster than your roof. Minor production loss in winter months isn’t a concern.

System is Incredibly Reliable

No moving parts means no problems. Our uptime has been essentially 100% – the only “downtime” is nighttime. Maintenance: virtually none.

Savings Exceed Projections

Our conservative estimates understated actual savings. Partly because rates increased faster than projected, partly because our system performs slightly better than rated specs.

Monitoring is Addictive

We check production daily. It’s fascinating to see real-time generation and watch your savings accumulate. You’ll understand why we recommend good monitoring systems.

Zero Regrets

Best decision we made. Every sunny day feels like getting paid. Every rate increase notice from West Penn Power makes us smile. It just works.
